A Weekend to Just Be (and Knit): Casual Knit Club x Roam & Wonder
There’s something very beautiful about giving people permission to do nothing but the thing they love.
That was the heart of our recent retreat with Casual Knit Club - a weekend spent at the breathtaking ARC Painswick, wrapped around one simple idea: time, space, and not a shred of apology needed for spending it knitting.
The Setting
We stayed at ARC Painswick, a gorgeous house tucked into the folds of the Cotswolds, all soft light and old stone and wide open views. A place you can immediately feel relaxed in before you've even set your bag down - the sort of house you want to wander barefoot through with a cup of tea, just to feel it.
The Food
Every single meal was created by Ella from Girls Who Dine, and it showed in every mouthful. Dishes curated with real care and real love, plus plenty of snacks scattered throughout the day to keep everyone going between walks and quiet knitting corners.
The Days
We kept the pace gentle and varied:
One long walk up to Painswick Beacon, taking in the views across the valley
One short stroll around the beautiful village of Painswick itself
Plenty of time to knit — to learn from each other, swap tips, inspire one another, and just enjoy unapologetic, unhurried knitting time
A dip in the heated pool for those who fancied it
Restorative yoga and a soundbath session to properly unwind
Massages available throughout the weekend
What It Was Really About
Strip away the schedule and the setting, and the heart of it was always this: giving our guests time, in a beautiful place, to simply be - and to knit. No pressure, no agenda beyond that. Just a community of people who love the same thing, finally given the space and stillness to enjoy it together.
A huge thank you to Kate and the whole Casual Knit Club community for bringing such warmth into every room of that weekend, and to Ella for feeding us so beautifully throughout. We are already dreaming of the next one - November 2027 on the Suffolk Coast.
