New Year’s Day Walk 2026: A Fresh Start in the Cotswolds

79 people signed up for our New Year’s Day walk this year — a remarkable sign of how much our Roam & Wonder community has grown. In the end, 54 walkers joined us for a scenic 5.5-mile route around Guiting Power, enjoying crisp winter air, open fields, winding paths, and even a few muddy tracks.
Last year, on New Year’s Day 2025, we had no booking system, no policies, and little idea how many people might turn up. That day was a turning point: it showed us how much desire there is for a welcoming, inclusive walking group in the Cotswolds. From that moment, the structured, well-prepared, community-focused walks you see today were born.
A Beautiful Winter Walk
Our New Year’s Day route through Guiting Power showcased the best of the Cotswolds in winter. Rolling countryside, peaceful paths, and open fields provided the perfect backdrop for conversation, laughter, and connection.
We finished at a local pub, warming up with friendly chats and shared stories — a reminder that Roam & Wonder walks are about more than just walking: they’re about creating community, supporting local spaces, and giving people a reason to get outdoors.
Every step reinforced why our walks are different. Thoughtful planning, detailed route information, and a welcoming atmosphere make it easy for anyone to join, enjoy, and feel part of something bigger.

With 79 sign-ups, it was clear that our walking community is expanding quickly. Roam & Wonder walks bring together people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Every walk is an opportunity to meet new friends, reconnect with the outdoors, and enjoy the Cotswold countryside in a safe, welcoming setting.
The turnout on New Year’s Day also reminded us why the systems we put in place — booking forms, pre-walk recce routes, parking details, and venue communication — matter. They ensure every walk is smooth, enjoyable, and accessible to everyone.
We’re also exploring sponsorship opportunities this year, which will help us enhance the walks even further — supporting local venues, providing extra resources for the group, and allowing more people to enjoy the walks free of charge.
